Sun on the Corner Bay Window

Looking back through our photos from the October 2022 Kansas and Missouri Trip, I found an interesting and colorful architectural detail.

During our stop in Ellsworth, Kansas, we enjoyed seeing some of the architecture around the town. I found this corner bay window to be interesting. The building was colorful, the sky was blue, and the sun was bright. You can even see a circle of sun flare over the whole right side of the photo, but I didn’t mind that at all. The sun was also reflecting off of the windows onto the side of the building, making it all even more interesting.

I say it often, but they just don’t build buildings like they used to. And apparently, they do not paint them as colorfully as they used to, either.

Can you imagine what it was like 60 or 70 years ago, sitting there looking out of that corner bay window, watching the traffic go by on the busy street down below, enjoying the sunlight shining in on you from above? I suppose it would be interesting to be sitting up there in the present day, too. But so often in scenes like this, I find myself trying to picture what it was like in the earlier days. Those days often seem more interesting than the present days, for whatever reason.

As you may recall, I recently mentioned that although the main posts of the Kansas and Missouri Trip were done, I still had some photos to share. These photos are some of those. More to come!

Sunny Days, Rainy Days

As you can see in those photos above, we were enjoying a nice, sunny day. Here is just a bit more proof of that, in this photo taken just a few minutes after those other photos:

Sunny days are nice, especially when you are wanting to do something outside. But then rainy days are nice, too. In their own way, at least. If you need the rain, a rainy day can be welcome. Or if you are wanting to relax inside, a rainy day is a good excuse to do that. Naps are nice on rainy days if you have the time to take one. And a warm beverage is even better on a cold, rainy day, if that is your thing.

On the particular day that I wrote this post, we had a bit of both. It was sunny in the morning and then rainy in the afternoon. The best of both worlds? Maybe, depending on what you were trying to do at the time.

I always try to be thankful for the changes in the weather, even when it changes to something I might not enjoy as much. Those times make me more appreciative of when we do get the weather that I like more. And it also gives me a reason to reflect on why I might not like that weather as much, and then to realize that it really isn’t all that bad. Plus, it reminds me to be patient, because if I wait around just a little while, then the weather will change to something else.

You can learn a lot from the weather. There are plenty of good life lessons to be found there.

The Lord is the one who by his power made the earth. He is the one who by his wisdom established the world. And by his understanding he spread out the skies. When his voice thunders, the heavenly ocean roars. He makes the clouds rise from the far-off horizons. He makes the lightning flash out in the midst of the rain. About the Photos

The building photos were both strong candidates for black-and-white treatments. But the colors on the building were so interesting that I couldn’t make that transformation. I did consider sharing both versions, but that was a bit redundant.

As I have often done lately, I gave these photos a slightly aged look, going along with the style of the building. I thought that might be just a bit more eye-catching.

And then the photo of the two of us really stands on its own, because it does not match the style of the first two photos. But I included it here anyway just for fun.
