Wat Pho Gate in Bangkok, Thailand
Wat Pho
I often think back to my trip to Bangkok. Believe it or not, that trip was almost three years ago now. It was a very good trip, and I have many fond memories of it. Along with many photos that I still never have shared.
On our first full day there, Gary and Michelle took Adam and me to the Wat Pho temple complex to give us a good introduction to the culture found in Bangkok. In addition to a quick lesson about the culture, it was also a great place to get some photos, because of all of the colorful architecture and details.
I particularly liked this photo because of how the stone guardian at the right appears to be posing for my photo. I guess everyone likes to ham it up for the camera sometimes, even if they are made of stone.
Although these guardians have been seen in some of my other Wat Pho photos, this one really gives a good representation of their scale, thanks to the people nearby. They really do tower over everything around them.
You can see more from that Bangkok trip in the Bangkok 2015 Archives here at the Burnsland website. There are even a few videos to be found, too.
Different Places
Looking back at those Bangkok photos reminds me of just how different some things were there. Different culture, different customs, different architecture, different plant life. And yet we are all still part of the same world. We may be separated by large bodies of water. We may be separated by man-made borders. But when it comes right down to it, we are all part of the same population of the same planet.
Just a reminder of that. Because I sometimes need to be reminded of it, too. In this world where it seems that someone is always pointing out differences, remember that we are really not very different at all.
Interesting Thought
You will never get anywhere if you keep your foot on the brake.
Bible Verse
There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. - Galatians 3:28
About the Photo
I continue to look for ways to make photos more eye-catching. For this one, I used lots of bold colors, along with some color filters to give a rather unique look. There is nothing wrong with trying something different every now and then. I thought that this look went quite well with the stone textures on the guardians.
