Walking Through Bangkok At Night
A street is filled with tuk-tuks, taxis, shoppers, and street vendors at night in Bangkok, Thailand.
On this particular night in Bangkok, we had been on to visit some of the urban refugees. On our way back to the church building where we were staying, Gary and Michelle took us through a street market of sorts down some of the side streets near the church building. And as you can tell, the street was bustling with activity.
While shoppers looked at what the vendors had to offer, tuk-tuks and taxis made their way up and down the street. As we were walking, we constantly had to dodge vehicles going this way and that down the narrow streets. And while it may have looked like a scene of chaos, in some ways it seemed like orderly chaos, as if it were all very much normal. Of course, to the residents there, it is indeed very much normal, even if it is something different to those of us from far away.
This photo also reminds me of other things about Bangkok, such as the ever-present ads on banners, signs, and anywhere else that you could possibly put an ad. And if you look up at the second stories of the buildings, you can see lots and lots of air conditioning units, which were also just about anywhere you could possibly put an air conditioner. I was interested to notice how it seemed that air conditioners had been added to most all of the buildings, meaning that they were all built without central air, as you would probably imagine for an area such as this. But with the heat, the air conditioning is very much welcomed, so no one seems to mind the units everywhere.
Just another of the many interesting views from the trip that brings back lots of memories for me.

About the photo:
This was just a simple handheld shot as we were walking along, because the street was to busy to try to set up a tripod, which I didn’t have with me anyway. I did crank the ISO up to 2000, and I opened the aperture as wide as it would go, up to f/1.8. But because of all the light from the street vendors’ booths, that still allowed for a 1/200 second exposure, so I probably could have dialed the ISO back just a bit.
