Walking the Hammock Trail

A boardwalk serves as a trail through the thick growth of a hammock at Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Despite posting about the hammock trail a few months back, I had largely forgotten about it until I was looking through my photos from this trip again. Is that a sign of old age? I hope not. I would prefer to remember things like this.

Even though it was warm and humid on this particular day, we didn’t mind spending some time outdoors walking along this trail. If it weren’t for the man-made boardwalk and an occasional glimpse of a fence through the trees, this area would seem almost prehistoric. Just like you would see in some old dinosaur movie. Or Land of the Lost. The television show, not the cheesy movie. Because the television show was cheesy enough.

I do like that Laura is in this photo, because it helps to give a sense of scale to all the growth that we were walking through. Besides that, I also like all the lines found here, from the turns of the boardwalk to the twists of the live oak branches. Who needs a lot of straight lines, anyway?
