Waiting on the Waves at Typhoon Lagoon

Everyone was waiting on a big wave in the main wave lagoon in Typhoon Lagoon, one of the water parks at Walt Disney World.

I took this photo during one of the small bobbing wave times at Typhoon Lagoon. While the huge waves are what the lagoon is known for, they have 30 minute periods of smaller waves every 90 minutes or so. This gives people a change to enjoy some swimming in the lagoon without being swept over by a big wave.

Of course, what everyone comes to the main lagoon for are the big waves that knock you off your feet, and while people do seem to enjoy the smaller waves, the crowd of people in the lagoon always gets larger once the big waves start back up.

While most all of our previous visits to Typhoon Lagoon have been on Fridays, this time we went on a Monday. We were pleasantly surprised by the smaller crowds and shorter lines for the slides. It does make sense, after all, because Monday is one of the most crowded days at the main theme parks, so it stands to reason that the water parks would have smaller crowds on those days. We’ll have to remember that for next time, too.

About the photo:
Because of the water park nature of Typhoon Lagoon, I don’t carry my camera around with me all day like I would at a normal theme park. So I always try to take some time to walk around with my camera, getting as many photos as I can in that time. Because who would want to drop their camera in the waves?
