Victory Monument in Bangkok
Vehicles surround Victory Monument, located in the middle of a traffic circle in Bangkok, Thailand. And even the BTS Skytrain can be seen in the distance. The monument commemorates the victory of a conflict with the French in 1940 and 1941.
On one of our first days in Bangkok, Gary and Michelle took Adam and me to see the monument and all of the traffic that goes past it. We were standing on the platform of the Skytrain station, as the tracks in the distance circle around and end up behind where we were standing here. As with all of the traffic in Bangkok, we were quite interested to see all of the cars, buses, motorcycles, pedestrians, and whatever else was in the area.
A few days later, on a Sunday afternoon, Adam and I had some free time, so we decided to walk back down to the monument, a walk of about a mile. That was when this photo was taken, along with the video clips that appear in the Bangkok Traffic video. We also stopped in at a coffee shop while we were in the area. And while Adam got some coffee, I got a frozen fruit drink, because it was nice and warm out that day.
When we got back to the church building later that afternoon, some of the church members asked what all we had done, and we replied that we had walked to Victory Monument. They got a good laugh out of that because of the distance that we had walked, which I thought was pretty funny. I guess we could have taken a cab, or we could have ridden the Skytrain down a couple of stops. But with how much traffic there always seemed to be, we thought that walking was by far the best way to go.
Given another chance, I think I would make the same choice again, too.

About the Photo
Just your normal bright, sunny day photo here. Although I do like all of the colors of the vehicles. It makes our cars and buses at home seem dull and drab in comparison.
