Valentine Banquet Photo Booth 2020
Me and My Valentine
A photo with my Valentine from our church’s annual Young at Heart Valentine Banquet, hosted by the youth group for our senior citizens.
Yes, we aren’t quite in the senior citizen group just yet, although we are getting a little closer. But we were asked once again to be in charge of the photo booth. That is always a fun thing to do. Laura comes up with the idea, and I take the photos while she manages the crowd. We make a pretty good team.
And of course, we have to test out the setup first before we can take everyone else’s photo. That is a good way to get a photo of the two of us together, because it seems like I am often behind the camera and not in front of it.
Fun with Friends
While we were finishing everything up, our dear friend Jennifer came over to see if we needed any help testing it out. How can you say no to that? While the first photo gave me a chance to work on my self-timer skills, this one allowed me to test out the actual photo-taking situation. Looks like it all was working great!
Laura likes to have some sort of prop for the photos, just to add an interesting element, especially for those who might be by themselves. So she found these extra-large Valentine cards, and she gave people the choice of which one they might want to hold. Laura and Jennifer both chose to hold one here, and a few of the couples did, too.
One More
When we are testing out our setups at various events, I usually end up with a fun photo or two, such as this one. Laura likes to throw in a fun pose every now and then.
Unfortunately, we did run into a snag about halfway through, when my remote flash transmitter and receiver decided to quit. Looks like I might be in the market for a new set. Fortunately, I was able to move the flash onto the camera without too many negative effects, although I do still prefer the off-camera lighting like this. Nothing major, it just took a little bit of adjusting.
So, Happy Valentine’s Day to you! Oh, and by the way, it just happens that Laura and I got engaged on a Valentine’s Day, long long ago. That always makes it a fun day, too!

House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. - Proverbs 19:14
About the Photos
As I mentioned, these photos were taken with my standard lens on my Sony Alpha camera. And a remote Canon Speedlite flash was used. Not much special besides that.
I did do just a little processing on these in Luminar, which I don’t use all that often. However, I did not need an HDR look like I want with most of my outdoor photos, so Luminar worked just fine here.
