Traffic Levels in Bangkok
Traffic moves on several different levels in Bangkok, Thailand.
In Bangkok, I was interested to see all of the different levels of traffic in this one location. On the ground level were the cars, vans, buses, motorcycles, tuk-tuks, and whatever other road vehicles might have been out at the time. At the middle level here, people walk along a walkway up above the road down below. And up above them, the BTS Skytrain makes its way from one station to the next.
This isn’t quite typical of the whole city of Bangkok, however. While there are cars on the roads and Skytrains up above, there aren’t always elevated walkways for pedestrians. At this particular location, the walkway led down to the Skytrain station, but walkways like that aren’t everywhere. The busier streets did have elevated crosswalks above them, however, which was nice for us pedestrians. Because traffic on those busy streets could get pretty crazy sometimes, and I can’t imagine trying to get across there on foot. Or even in a car in some places. I was very happy to leave the driving to others.
As you may know, Walt Disney’s original plan for EPCOT (the city, not to be confused with Epcot the theme park) had different levels for different types of traffic. That never fully came to be, unfortunately, but whenever I am a pedestrian, I can definitely see the need for it. Maybe one of these days in some new city somewhere that will happen.
Switching gears here (traffic pun!), Gary and Michelle Ford, who Adam and I went to Bangkok to visit, are now back in Bangkok after several months here in the United States. They are planning for their next phase of work, which includes church planting, and it is an exciting time for them. But I am also glad that they were here with us for a while and that we got to spend some time with them while they were in the States.
That photo was from our church’s annual Honor Service this past Memorial Day weekend, by the way, right before Gary and Michelle left on their journey back to Bangkok.

About the photo:
The colors here are very vivid, and I went with that look on purpose. It may not quite be exactly how it looked in person, but I think this is pretty cool, especially with how the processing brings out some of the textures on the surfaces.
