The Walt Disney Theatre on the Disney Dream
An elaborate floor pattern with the familiar “WD” initials leads to one of the entrances to the Walt Disney Theatre on the Disney Dream, one of the ships of the Disney Cruise Line.
The Disney ships have two theaters, the Walt Disney Theatre and the Buena Vista Theatre. Typically, movies are shown in Buena Vista, while the Walt Disney Theatre is the home of the stage productions. However, sometimes movies are also shown in the Walt Disney Theatre, and that is why we were going in when this photo was taken. We were on our way in to see Tomorrowland, and if you read our Disney Cruise Trip Report, you know I was less than impressed by that movie.
But regardless of my taste in movies, I like spaces such as this on the Disney ships, and I often try to capture them in a photo or two. I did wait around until all the people were out of the way for this particular shot, although depending on the time of day that isn’t always that easy, and you might be waiting a while. But on a sunny day when most people are out at the pools or waiting in line for the AquaDuck, you can often catch a break between people at the interior spaces.
While most photos of this theater are taken around by the shops with the large mural of Walt Disney himself (such as this photo from a previous cruise), I liked this view with the cool floor pattern, mainly because you don’t see photos of it nearly as often as of the Walt mural.
If you are wondering, to the left is the stairwell nearest the theater. To the right is Preludes, a place to get a drink or a snack before going to one of the shows. Although the sliding door was partially open here, I don’t think there was actually anyone there serving anything. Not that we needed a snack, anyway. And drinks aren’t exactly our thing.
Perhaps more important is the fact that just past Preludes is the short hallway that leads to the men’s restroom. Always good to know where those are, after all. Just in case.

About the Photo
As I mentioned above, this was a quick photo as we were walking in, and fortunately I didn’t have to wait long before the one person in front of us was out of the way. I did do some masking to make the lighted “Walt Disney Theatre” banner easier to read, as it turned out a little bright in the original exposure. Gotta love RAW files for stuff like that!
A single RAW exposure, processed in Photoshop. Read more about the photo software and gear I use at the camera gear page.
