The Time I Ran Away and Joined S.H.I.E.L.D.

Remember when I ran away and joined S.H.I.E.L.D.? You know, the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division from the Marvel movies and television show? Read all about it at Burnsland!

Remember when I ran away and joined S.H.I.E.L.D.? You know, the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division from the Marvel movies and television show? Here I am taking a break in the break room, sitting at the Thor table to enjoy a few moments of downtime before getting back to my super-secret, world-saving work. Because even S.H.I.E.L.D. agents have to take a break every now and then.

Okay, so as fun as it sounds, maybe I didn’t really join S.H.I.E.L.D. This photo was from a small cafe inside a shop in Bangkok, Thailand, last year. Gary Ford had posted his photo from there on Facebook the other day, and it reminded me of my similar photo.

While in Bangkok, I was surprised by just how much Avengers stuff was there. That was just after Avengers: Age of Ultron had been released, and in fact I saw that movie there in Bangkok. Apparently, it was quite popular, as is everything Marvel, because the Avengers were everywhere. Here’s a bit of a look around.

This display of Marvel stuff, including this large lighted Captain America shield, was in the same location as the cafe above, but in another part of the store. As you can see from the glimpses of items on the shelves, they had all kinds of Marvel things for sale. It was hard not to buy all of them, but then I would have had to figure out a way to get them on the plane and back home.

As you can see by the reflection in the glass, this large Captain America figure was also in the same location. Not really sure why he was caged up behind glass. Because everyone knows that Captain America is a good guy, right? He looks like he is thinking about everything he is going to do when he gets out of there. Or maybe what kind of coffee he is going to order from the cafe. You can click him to see him larger.

The theater where we saw Avengers: Age of Ultron had these larger-than-life statues of Captain America and Iron Man. I believe Hulk was there, too, but strangely I don’t have a photo of him. You can click them to see them larger, too.

In another mall, we found a video arcade that had these figures of Captain America and Iron Man as well. Even larger than the previous ones, as you can see by the girl sitting behind Captain America. But interestingly, these were cut off at the knees. Not really sure why, except that if they had their full legs they wouldn’t fit inside the space, since their heads were already close to the ceiling.

Oh yeah, and Batman was there, too. Trying to become an honorary Avenger, I guess. Or also wondering where he had left the rest of his legs. You can also sort of see a normal-size Iron Man behind Batman, but I just took photos of the big ones.

So while it was fun to see all of the Avengers and Marvel stuff while I was in Bangkok, I didn’t really join S.H.I.E.L.D. while I was there.

Or did I?
