The Nassau Lighthouse

This lighthouse in Nassau, Bahamas, stands near where the cruise ships arrive and depart. Actually, this photo was taken as we were departing Nassau on the Disney Dream. It is interesting to see how the cruise ships tower over the lighthouse. For example, this photo was taken from our room on Deck 5, and we were pretty much even with the top of the lighthouse.

I’m sure the lighthouse has some history behind it, in case anyone would like to look it up. Or I might take the time to look it up myself. After all, I did take photos of the lighthouse on our arrival in Nassau as well. However, those photos were from Deck 11 looking down on the lighthouse, so they give a bit of a different perspective to it, looking down on it from up high.

As the clouds were moving in while we were departing, the sky here added a lot of character to the photo. Of course,t he main focus of the photo is the lighthouse itself, but I like the different blues in the water and in the sky as well. And I do appreciate how the red of the lighthouse top jumps out against that sky.

It is pretty much what I imagine a subtropical lighthouse would look like.

About the photo:
As we were sailing past the lighthouse, I tried several different settings to get the look that I was going for. I eventually settled on a aperture of f/20, which in aperture priority mode gave a shutter speed of 1/40 second. Fortunately, we weren’t moving fast enough to give any motion blur.
