The Magic School Bus for Trunk or Treat 2021

The Magic School Bus

Laura as Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus for Trunk or Treat

For Trunk or Treat at our church this year, Laura dressed as Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus. And as you can see behind her, the Magic School Bus has taken us on a tour of the solar system!

The Magic School Bus was a little after my time. Not that I am admitting to being old or anything. I did not know how many of the kids might know who Laura had dressed as. But several of them, when they came by for candy, would look at her and say, “Are you Ms. Frizzle?” “Yes!” she would say. Actually, she got that from almost as many parents as from kids, because most of the parents, being younger than I am, grew up watching that show either at home or at school. So it turned out to be a very good choice!

Close-Up

The Magic School Bus for Trunk or Treat

Here is a close-up view of the Magic School Bus, with Liz the lizard riding on top. Laura took an idea from a website for making the bus and modified it to her own design, using some boxes for the bus and a pool noodle for the wheels. After a couple of coats of yellow spray paint, she painted the windows, eyes, and such herself. I thought it turned out great!

Liz came from an origami lizard pattern, also found somewhere out there on the internet. We learned that neither of us is all that good at origami! But between the two of us, we got the job done.

It was a fun day, and we had lots and lots of kids come by and get candy. So much so that we had to get some candy from our trunk neighbor Kyle, just to make sure we did not run out!

See some of Laura’s past Trunk or Treat ideas, too!

But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” - Luke 18:16-17
