The Disney Dream in Nassau Harbor
The Disney Dream, one of the Disney Cruise Line ships, arrives in Nassau harbor in the Bahamas on a bright sunny morning during our recent cruise.
As we were finishing our breakfast on the morning we were to arrive in Nassau, we decided we wanted to watch as our ship docked in the harbor. I thought it was a little odd that the ship was going forward into the harbor, because I knew that on our past cruises the ship had always backed up to the dock. But we were going forward, so Laura and I went to the forward section of the top deck, leaving Jaylin with the Riedels, because that section of the ship was reserved for those 18 and up. Jaylin didn’t mind, because he was too busy playing ping-pong with Zach and Katie anyway.
However, not long after Laura and I found a good spot facing forward, the ship started turning around. I had just thought, “There probably isn’t any room to turn around a ship of this size, so we must be going forward all the way,” but I was wrong. Captain Henry turned the ship on a dime, as it were, pivoting right where we were. So then Laura and I had to rush to the aft section (that would be the back for all you landlubbers) to get a good view of the ship backing up to the dock, which we did end up getting. We even got to see them tie the lines, which doesn’t sound all that exciting, but it is to us.
So we should have trusted our instincts and our memories of past cruises and gone aft all along. But it wasn’t a total loss, because I like the view in this photo that I took of the forward bow (the pointy end of the ship, as Captain Henry always calls it) looking out toward the harbor. I snapped this right before we started rushing aft, hoping that the Disney Cruise Line flag was blowing enough in the wind to show up well in the photo. And just look at how blue the water is, too. Much different than the muddy Mississippi River back here at home!
