The Contemporary Resort Across Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World
The Contemporary Resort hotel at Walt Disney World is seen across Seven Seas Lagoon on a beautiful day. And that is the Grand Floridian boat dock sticking out from the right, in case you weren’t sure. The Grand Floridian is just out of the frame on the right, and the Magic Kingdom is to the left.
If you are wondering, this was taken out the window of the Monorail as we were riding from one hotel to another in the late afternoon. The sun was behind us, lighting up the Contemporary just perfectly.
This does bring back some memories of the old days when you could look out across the lagoon and only see one large building of the contemporary there. The A-frame tower stood out nicely in the distance as it rose above everything else. But now that the Bay Lake Tower has been added, the original A-frame tower has lost a little bit of its distinctness. While the new tower may not necessarily conflict with the views of the original tower, it has taken away something from that old tower by moving in on its position.
That probably doesn’t matter at all to those who stay in the Bay Lake Tower. And it probably doesn’t even matter to most of the people who stay in the original tower. Since I have never stayed in either tower, I can’t really say for certain. But even though it has been there for a few years now, the new tower still looks a bit out of place to an old-timer like me.
That’s progress, I guess. The price of trying to be contemporary.

About the photo:
Not much special about this photo. Just a quick shot out of the window as the Monorail was moving. Fortunately, my camera was already set close to what it needed to be, because the Monorail drivers won’t stop to let you get your photo just right. Although sometimes it would be nice if they did.
