The Beach at Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica
Previously, we took a look at Dunn’s River Falls, a beautiful natural waterfall near Ocho Rios, Jamaica. All of that water rushing down the falls has to go somewhere. But it doesn’t go just anywhere - it empties out into the Caribbean Sea at a beautiful beach. For some, the beach is as big of an attraction as the waterfall is, and much fun can be had enjoying the blue water of the Caribbean at Dunn’s River Falls beach.
Here are several views of the beach at Dunn’s River Falls.
First up is a general look at the beach. Sand, water, sun - what more could you want from the beach? As you can see, there were quite a few people there that day, which is understandable, because it was a hot summer day. July 4, to be exact, although that date isn’t a holiday in Jamaica as it is in the United States, of course. And I must say that I am jealous of whoever lives in that house off to the right, because they have a perfect view.
Another general view of the beach. And although I mentioned in the previous paragraph that there were several people there, as you can see it wasn’t so crowded as to be unbearable. And have I mentioned that it was a perfect day to be at the beach?
I liked this life guard hut set up near the beach, and I liked that there was a surf board in it. Not that there were any waves big enough to go surfing on, but that would be handy to help keep afloat while helping someone. I haven’t seen a surfboard for life guards at any of the other beaches I have been to, but I would guess this isn’t the only one that has that.
I liked that the tree branches grew out over the beach in some places, because that was much different from Cocoa Beach, where I am used to going. And just for a change, I decided to go with a different sort of look for this photo, using some desaturated colors in my processing here.
One of my favorite things about the beach, at least photographically speaking, was this old pier. As you can tell, it doesn’t serve much of a purpose any more, and I would wonder about you if you tried to walk out on it. There is a very fine line between bravery and stupidity, after all. But the worn nature of the pier made it look great in photos, at least to me. I will try not to share all of the ones I took here with you.
But that doesn’t mean that I won’t share some of the photos of the pier that I took. Like this one, for example. A pretty interesting photo subject, I think. Even in black and white.
Okay, back to the beach views. Once you get past the pier, the trees take over, pretty much meaning the end of the beach. But it is still a nice view. And I am still jealous of those houses over there. I wonder if they would like some company? I know a couple of very friendly people who would be glad to help wash the dishes.
One more photo of the pier. Because the beach ends right past the pier as mentioned above, most people don’t even come down this far. Which makes it a perfect spot to get some photos. If you don’t look back down the beach, you would think you were out here all by yourself, except for the occasional passing boat.
Another view of the life guard hut, looking from the pier back toward the falls. In some ways, I hate that I got that tree branch in the top foreground of this photo, but in another way I like it. Although I might go for a different angle if I were to ever have the chance to go back again. And if you are looking for the life guard, so am I. I guess there was one there, but I never could figure out who it was.
To me, this view reminds me the most that this was in Jamaica, mainly because of the yellow and green paint everywhere. And the power lines at the top. Not that I am complaining in any way. I really like this view. And seeing a photo like this instantly takes me back there to that terrace where I was standing when I took this. It was a fun day.
