Sunset at Home

Good Evening

Sometimes when you get home, the sunset is so nice that you run inside the house and grab your camera so that you can capture and remember it all. Last week, we had one of those sunsets, as you can see here. Over the last several weeks, we have received quite a bit of rain, which has been mentioned occasionally in some previous posts, so nice sunsets have been a bit rare lately.  While this one wasn’t necessarily the best one that we have ever had, it was nice to see.

Why are sunsets so popular, anyway? I would guess it is because of all the different colors that fill the sky as the sun is going down, particularly if there are some clouds in the area. It is much different from the regular blue or overcast skies of the daytime, or even different from the dark skies of the nighttime. People like colors, so people like sunsets. I would guess that is much more the case than if people are happy about the daytime transitioning into nighttime or something.

Sometimes I am either too busy or too distracted to notice if the sunset is even a nice one or not. So take time to notice the sky around you whenever you can. It just might be nice.

When Is the Sunset?

Over the weekend, everything changed. By “everything,” I mainly mean time. Actually, time did not change. We just changed what time we say it is.

If all of that is confusing, that is how the beginning of Daylight Saving Time makes many of us feel. Disoriented. Confused. Hungry at the wrong times. Tired at the wrong times.

But that change means that now the sun will not be setting right when I get home. Instead, it will be light for a little while longer. That means you have time to get home and figure out what is going on there before the sun sets.

That also means that we more likely will be inside the house when the sun is setting instead of outside in the car or just getting home. So noticing the sunset will take a little more effort. But then getting up on time takes a little more effort right now, too. That’s part of the fun of Daylight Saving Time starting.

About the photo

As I mentioned above, this was one of those quick photos after running in the house to grab my camera. The fisheye lens was still on the camera, so I left it. A zoom lens would have produced a different view, perhaps. But I like the large expanse of blue sky that quickly changes into colors near the horizon, so I was happy with the lens choice. I did choose to use a separate exposure from the same Raw file for the ground area to keep it from looking too dark.
