Snow on Hollywood Boulevard in Disney's Hollywood Studios
A Hollywood Blizzard
When we were at Disney’s Hollywood Studios during our 2016 Christmas trip to Walt Disney World, the snow was really coming down on Hollywood Boulevard. Just look at all those snowflakes in the air. It was almost a blizzard! Well, not really. After all, this was still Florida. Even though most people had on long sleeves and long pants, it was not quite cold enough for actual snow.
No, this snow was the result of a little theme park trickery. A special effect to help everyone feel the Christmas holiday season. The snow was falling at the end of the Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam! fireworks show, which was of course centered around the Christmas season. And the falling snowflakes were a nice touch.
To me, this kind of snow is really the best kind of snow. Why, you may ask? After all, you can’t build a snowman with it. You can’t make a snow angel on the ground. You can’t even throw a snowball. And you don’t get to see the buildings of Disney’s Hollywood Studios all covered with several inches of snow. All of that is true. But you also aren’t freezing cold to the point of not feeling your fingers and your toes. And if you are leaving in your car, you don’t have to worry about snowy, icy streets. So you get to see the beauty of the falling snow without all of the bad side effects. How can that be wrong?
Just make sure you have a lens cloth handy to clean the soap, I mean snow, off of your camera lens!
Finding the Family
I occasionally mention a game of “Where’s Laura and Jaylin” for some of the photos around here. They tend to end up in several of my photos, particularly those taken with a fisheye lens. In this photo, they are pretty easy to find, as they are right in the middle of the street in front of me. And there are some Riedels in there, too, just as a bonus. Apparently, no one else stopped when I stopped to take this photo. Oh well, at least they did not leave me completely behind. And Karen was even looking back to see where I was. It all had a happy ending.

About the photo
As with most of my photos from this particular trip, this was just a quick snapshot. We were making our way out of the park for the evening, and I wanted to get one more photo of the snow on Hollywood Boulevard. So I stopped in the middle of the street for this one, which was just a handheld photo with no tripod. Tip: Always make sure someone is not walking right behind you if you stop in the middle of the street. Fortunately, no one was right behind me at this time, as most of the crowd had left ahead of us. It is always better to let the majority of the crowd leave before you do. That way, you have a slightly shorter wait transportation back to your hotel or your car. And you can walk without having everyone be right on top of you. Plus, you can stop and take photos without getting run over.
