Shelby County Courthouse in Memphis

For school, Jaylin had to do a Tennessee history project. One of his options was to take his picture in front of three Memphis landmarks, so we thought that one was a good one that we could all do together. And it turned out that the day we picked for it was just about perfect weather-wise, too.
Our first stop was the Shelby County Courthouse. This building has always been one of the most interesting buildings to me. I’m sure some would be able to spout off something about its neo-classical architecture, and maybe that is why I like it. But I couldn’t have put a name on the architecture if it hadn’t been on the historical marker sign out front. Still, I do like all of the columns, the architectural details, and the statues around the entrances. And it definitely does have that “important courthouse” look to it, too.
I suppose it wouldn’t look quite as interesting to you if you were having to go inside to appear in court for some serious offense. Actually, I have been in court in this building, but fortunately, it wasn’t for anything bad.
Instead, this building was where Jaylin’s adoption was finalized. And that was a good thing.
