Seaweed at Cocoa Beach

We arrived in Florida for our Disney Cruise a day early, so that we would have a little time to spend at the beach, because Cocoa Beach is one of our favorite places. Because we got there in the afternoon, we had to drive around a bit to find a parking spot at the park, but we finally did find one.

When we got out to the beach, we were a bit surprised by all of the seaweed that had washed up on the shore, because there usually hasn’t been quite that much on our previous visits to Cocoa Beach. Maybe there had been some storm out at sea or something that had churned up the seaweed and washed it ashore. Not really sure, but that’s the story I am going to stick with.

Fortunately, all of that seaweed didn’t negatively affect our beach experience at all. We were able to step right over it and go on out into the water. Every now and then, a piece of seaweed would wash up against us in the water when we were out there. It is always a little surprising when something in the water touches you, but we got used to it after we figured out it wasn’t a jellyfish. Or any other kind of fish, which probably isn’t as bad as when a jellyfish touches you, as we have found out from previous experience.

And when we got back to the beach later on after our cruise, most of the seaweed was gone. The ocean brings it in, and the ocean takes it back out again. It is the circle of seaweed life.

All of that reminds me of one of my favorite jokes: Why was the sand wet? Because the seaweed.

And that is about as good as the jokes get around here.
