Sailing in at Nassau, Bahamas

We sail past the lighthouse as the Disney Dream makes its way to Nassau, Bahamas, on a sunny morning.

As we were arriving at Nassau during our Disney Cruise, the sun was out, reflecting brightly off the water. We sailed into the harbor past the lighthouse, which has been pictured here earlier in a post cleverly titled The Nassau Lighthouse; that earlier photo was taken in the afternoon as we were leaving Nassau.

Despite what you may be thinking, the lighthouse did not magically grow during the day while we were there. This morning photo was taken from the top deck of the ship, while the afternoon photo was taken from the verandah on our room on deck 5, six decks lower than where this photo was taken. I like that this photo shows how the ship towers over the lighthouse, which is only a few stories tall. I’m sure its light was a big help to smaller ships and boats way back in the old days, and I am glad that it is still there today as a reminder of those old days. Even if it does seem a little small compared to today’s mega-sized sailing vessels.

About the photo:
This photo has a bit of a different look than some of the more “real” looking photos that I often post. But I liked the colors that came out when I turned the saturation way up, giving a slightly surreal look here. I did create a different exposure from the same RAW file to add some brightness to the lighthouse, just to make sure that it stood out enough from the dark background. So depending on your taste, you may consider this more toward art than photography. And I’m fine with that.
