Reflections of the Bangkok Airport
Windows in a terminal of the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, reflect those standing nearby.
When it was time for us to leave Bangkok to return home, we had to be at the airport early, because our flight left around 7:00 AM. When we got through all of the security checkpoints and walked past all of the stores that seemed more like a shopping mall than an airport, we arrived at our terminal. I was interested to see that the wall of the terminal was actually a curved structure made of glass window tiles. And because the sun hadn’t even thought about rising yet, those windows actually reflected everything that was inside. So of course I grabbed my camera to get a photo of the reflections of the different people standing around.
This part of the terminal was actually an open, two-level structure. I was on the lower level looking up as the structure curved to change from wall to ceiling, so that the people and areas that I could see reflected in the windows were actually above and behind me. Pretty cool, even if it does hurt your brain a bit to think about it.
After getting a few photos and then reviewing them on my camera, I thought about trying to take a few more, just to make sure I got the shot that I wanted. But by that point, it was starting to get light outside, meaning that the windows were letting more light through from outside than reflecting light from inside the building. Fortunately, I ended up being happy with what I already had, since the moment was gone.
Because of all that, I actually didn’t mind having to get up so early for our flight. At least for a few minutes.

About the photo:
This photo was actually pretty simple. No big, complicated processing involved here. I did tweak it just a bit to make the reflections a little stronger, but that’s about it. And to me, it is interesting to look at it closely to see what everyone is doing here.
