Just a Shower

Rain falls from the clouds (because what else would it fall from?) behind the Yacht Club Resort, one of the Epcot Resorts at Walt Disney World. This was from our June 2018 visit.

As you may know from reading the Burnsland website over the past few years, we sometimes like to take a walk around the Epcot Resorts when we are in the Central Florida area. And when we do, it often seems like the rain follows us.

At this particular moment, we had outsmarted the rain, as it was on the other side of the lake from where we were. But the rain had the last laugh when it caught up with us later on. That will teach us to laugh at the rain, won’t it? Probably not.

I like wide open vistas like this one, where you can see an isolated rain shower way off in the distance. With the frequent rains in Florida, it seems like you have a pretty good chance of seeing one of those isolated showers pretty often, especially if you have a nice, big view like this one.

Another Trip Around the Sun

I recently completed another trip around the sun and started up the next one. If you didn’t catch the hidden meaning of that last sentence, then I will state it more plainly: I had a birthday.

When we were kids, we could not wait until our next birthday. It seemed like it would take much longer than a year for each one to come. We would be quite excited about it. Some of that excitement was for the presents and birthday cake that we knew was coming. Some of that excitement was for the attention that we were about to receive. But much of that excitement came from moving up to the next year. Because we could not wait to grow up.

For some reason, as we get older, we don’t necessarily like to admit that we had a birthday. The attention is still nice, as are the presents and cake. But at least for me, I do not always like adding another integer to my age. The bigger that number gets, the more I know that my life is moving right on by.

However, if I am asked, I don’t mind telling my age. Which is 48. Thanks for asking. In some ways, I am proud to have made it as far as I have. Sadly, I have already outlived some of the people that I went to school with. So I am happy to be here. And I am older now than 3 of my 4 grandparents were when I was born, for whatever that is worth.

None of us knows how much, or how little, time we have left here. That is what you realize when you start to approach that half-century mark, or when you pass it. I still have a lot of things that I would like to do, so perhaps I should get busy doing them. Just in case.

Instead of being sad over how many years have already passed, I will try to make the most of what I have right now and in the future, however long that might be.

About the Photo

This was another photo processed with Aurora HDR, which I have been using a good bit lately. The HDR processing really brought out the rain shower in the background, which was not quite as prominent in the original photo. And the colors are much brighter and more interesting, too.
