Picnic Table at the Beach
We saw a few of these picnic tables at Lori Wilson Park at Cocoa Beach, Florida, but I never have seen anyone eating at them. I’m sure people do, however, because one day I did see a raccoon running away with something he found underneath one. Someone had some food there at some time.
As for us, we always prefer to eat in the shade of our beach umbrella. Because that sun can get pretty hot if you don’t have a little shade. Still, the view from these tables is pretty nice.

After a Holiday Weekend
As you may know, this weekend brought the Labor Day holiday here in the United States. Which is an oddly named holiday, because no one labors on Labor Day. Except those in the retail business who must make pretty good money from their Labor Day sales. And then there is usually some labor at home, too, such as yard work or car washing or house cleaning. So maybe that is the labor they are talking about.
Growing up, Labor Day was always about my least favorite holiday. I was always the kind who liked a strict routine (although I’m doing much better now). I liked things to be in a certain order, and then to follow that pattern. I never minded the summer break from school. But then school started back with its same routine every day, and I was fine with that.
And right when you had gotten used to the routine, along came Labor Day to throw a wrench into things. It threw off everything. A nicely divided five day school week was cut down to four days, although everyone seemed to want to accomplish the same amount of things in each class. That just wasn’t right. But I survived.
Now that I do labor, I do enjoy Labor Day much more. I have come to enjoy any break where we can stay at home as a family and do stuff there. Or even take a short family vacation, as we did last year.
So maybe this whole Labor Day holiday isn’t so bad after all.
