Pickwick Landing State Park

Last weekend, we were at Pickwick Landing State Park in Tennessee for our church’s second annual Couples’ Retreat. We had been to Pickwick a couple of times last year, once for the first Couples’ Retreat and then again for a weekend getaway, so we were happy to be back here again.

Pickwick Landing State Park sits on the bank of Pickwick Lake in southwest Tennessee. The park has a nice Inn with some large meeting rooms (that we saw a good bit of) and an indoor pool (that we never did use) as well as an outdoor pool that was obviously closed for the season.

Our time at Pickwick Landing was a bit limited, but we still did see a few of the sights. After the sessions of the first night, we walked over to see the cemetery, but because it was well after dark and there aren’t any lights at the cemetery, I didn’t bother taking my camera there. But still, here are some photos from our most recent visit.

This was the view from our room in the State Park Inn. All of the rooms in the Inn face the lake, so every room has a great view. I had left my tripod in the car when we were bringing in all of our bags, but after seeing this view in the twilight hours, I decided to go back and get it to capture this properly.

This long, open corridor led down to the restaurant inside the Inn. Although we didn’t eat there Friday night, the catfish did smell good, at least to those of us who like that sort of thing (not Laura). But we did eat breakfast and lunch there on Saturday, and both meals were quite good. And on top of the food, I like those light fixtures. But I wouldn’t want to eat them.

Here is a view of the main entrance to the State Park Inn. As you can see, it has what you might consider a “typical” park inn architectural design. It works well enough for me, even if the design of the building isn’t the main reason that we stay there.

Laura enjoys a moment in one of the rocking chairs at the entrance in the photo above. Actually, this is a completely staged photo, because as we were walking by I said, “Sit there for a minute so I can take a picture.” Although I didn’t say it quite as demandingly as that last sentence made it sound. Still, I think the photo turned out well, even if we didn’t have the time to sit there and relax for a long while. And if we did have time to sit, it probably would have been on the other side of the Inn so that we could see the lake.

And lastly, here is a daytime view from our room’s balcony, and this view doesn’t look all that different from the twilight view in the first photo. But I included it here, just in case you wanted to see something different.

It was nice to get back to Pickwick Landing again. And somehow I don’t think this will be our last visit, either.
