Pickwick Lake

While on our church’s couples retreat, we used some of our free time to visit Pickwick Lake. That was easy to do, because we were staying at the state park inn that was right on the lake. But while we were able to see the lake the whole time we were there, it was nice to walk down closer to it, too.

Pickwick Lake was formed when the Tennessee Valley Authority built the Pickwick Landing Dam on the Tennessee River in the 1930s. I sometimes wonder what the area was like before the lake was there.

Pickwick Lake is popular with boaters and swimmers in the summer. But on this February day, it was rather cold and windy, so the only people out on the lake were a few people in fishing boats. And I felt sorry for them, because I know they were cold. And we were too, so we didn’t stay at the lake for long.

But still, it looks nice in photos.
