Pickwick Dam

After our visit to the Civil War battlefields of Shiloh and a stay at the Pickwick Landing State Park Inn, we dropped by Pickwick Dam before heading back for home. As you can see, there were several people out fishing that day. Actually, there were A LOT of people out fishing that day. You can just see a few of them here.

We first stopped by across the way at the locks, because I forgot that they had closed off the visitor center that used to be there. So no close-up views of boats going through the locks. But we did see several people fishing on the lock side. They were all taking about how they weren’t catching anything.

After that, we drove over to the spillway side. And once again there were several people fishing. But unlike the people on the lock side, the spillway fishers were pulling in fish right and left. One after the other. Good size fish, too. We thought about going back over and telling all the lock fishers that they needed to come over to the spillway side, but we never did do that. Because probably the last thing fishing people want is some advice from non-fishing people like us.

It does remind me of when the disciples were fishing and not catching anything, and Jesus told them to cast their nets on the other side of the boat. Except that these fishers weren’t in boats. And we definitely weren’t Jesus.

So we just sat back and enjoyed watching all of the activity.
