Photos: Walk To End Alzheimer's

This past weekend, we took part in the Walk To End Alzheimer’s at Memphis Botanic Garden to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. As you may know, Laura’s mother suffered from Alzhemier’s, as have - and do - several others. Here are a few photos from the day.

We were part of Team Riedel along with the Riedels, hence the catchy team name. They were taking official team photos by the lake, which we did. And then we took an “unofficial” team photo minus the photographer. And you may not be able to tell from this photo, but it was freezing outside. We weren’t just trying to look like trendy hip-hop people for nothing.

Everyone could get a “flower” that would then be “planted” during the walk. The different flower colors symbolized different things. For example, the purple flower meant that you had lost someone to Alzheimer’s.

During the opening ceremony, they had people raise their flowers according to color groups. I really liked the way the sun lit up the translucent flowers. In hindsight, I should have gone with a slower shutter speed so that you could see the motion of the flowers at they were spinning. But I still like this.

Once the walk had ended, the flowers were planted in the ground, but apparently everyone was welcome to then take theirs home with them. Again, as with the photo above, I liked the visual of all the different colors of flowers in the sunlight. Even if people were coming to pull them up as quickly as I could get a photo.

Always nice to have friends to do things like this with. Friends make everything better.

By the end of the walk, we were starting to warm up just a little. But it was still cold out. Still, it was a fun time, even if it was to raise awareness for a serious cause.
