Photos: Sunrise at the Cemetery - Part 1
The other morning, I stopped by the cemetery that is just down the road from our house in Williston, Tennessee. The leaves of the trees had finally taken on their fall colors, and the light from the rising sun looked to be just right to give everything a nice glow. So on my way to work, I stopped in with my camera for a few minutes, just to see what I could capture.
I don’t actually know anyone buried in this cemetery, but I think it is a cool place for some photos because of the old grave markers and fences there. I’m sure there is a lot of history to be found there if you know some of the stories about the people buried there, but I don’t know any of that. Yet.
Here are just a few of the photos that I took that morning:
As you can see, the sun was still climbing up behind the trees. I appreciate the sun for coming up later at this time of year, because I don’t know that I could get there any earlier.
Some of the graves are in a fenced area, while others are not. I really don’t know what the significance is to the fenced area. Are they all from one family? Was that the original cemetery plot, and the other graves have been added around it? And some of the tombstones inside the fence look newer, while others look really old. It is a mystery to me.
Here is a detail of the fence. I like the antique look to it, which of course comes from the fence actually being antique. And to me, it looks exactly like the kind of fence that you would expect to find in a cemetery. Ornate, but yet still simple.
There are all sorts of tombstones in this cemetery, from these large, ornate ones to other small, simple ones. Maybe the larger ones such as these were for more important people. Still, whether they were important or not, or whether they had large tombstones or not, all of the people there ended up the same way, just as everyone else has, or will.
This is Part 1, because I took several photos that day and I didn’t want to overload you with all of them at once. Instead, I wanted to give you a chance to spend a little more time looking at each of them. So watch for Part 2 coming soon!
