Photos: Outside Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
Recently, we took a look inside the Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World. So now, let’s take a look around the outside of the Lodge to see some of the sights.
Here we are outside of the Animal Kingdom Lodge. This actually isn’t the “front” entrance of the Lodge, however, because this side is much more attractive. The main entrance features a large car canopy for drop-offs and such, and to me it isn’t all that much to look at. So we will just look at this side instead.
This little area is near the entrance to the animal viewing areas. I like the detail of the giraffe carved in the rock here. It really does look like something out of the neighboring Animal Kingdom park, doesn’t it?
A zebra enjoys some grass. I always think the natural patterns on animals such as zebras and giraffes are fascinating, even though I may not decorate my home with them. Or have zebra-stripe seat covers in my car. To each his own.
At last, we have found the mythical unicorn! Oh wait, he has another small horn there, indicating that one must have broken off at some point. Never mind, folks, no unicorns to be seen around here.
Just a zebra with two giraffes in the background. Nothing special here. Except that we only see animals like this in zoos or at Animal Kingdom. I wonder if people from other countries and continents would pay money to see the deer, squirrels and armadillos that we see every day around our house? Probably not.
Here is another view of the Lodge itself. It often seems to rain when we are at Animal Kingdom Lodge, but that’s okay. We will stand out in a sprinkle to see some animals. A heavy downpour is another story, however. Fortunately, this time it was just a few sprinkles.
“Hey, buddy - would you mind sharing some of that hay?” “Sure, no problem.”
“Okay. Hope you don’t mind that I brought my cousin Billy along, too.”
Another outside view of the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I don’t know if they actually have hotels like this in Africa, but I like to imagine that they do. Please don’t tell me that I am wrong.
Here is another look at the building housing the main lobby as it peeks out from behind the growth. In case you are wondering, that big window area is the same one that can be seen behind the ostrich egg lights in the photos from inside the Lodge.
Of course, it wouldn’t be nearly as fun of a trip without my traveling companions Jaylin and Laura. Fortunately, they like to see the animals, too. And it gives them something to do while I am taking all of these photos.
One last view. I like the detail of the vines going up the stairwell area here. Of course, they are metal representations of vines and not actual vines, but I still think it is a nice touch. As are the antlers at the top of that section. A really nice design for this building!
