Photo: Walt Disney World Monorail at Dusk
One evening during our summer trip to Florida, we were at Walt Disney World making our way around Seven Seas Lagoon on the Walk Around the World. That walkway is close to the Monorail track at several locations, giving some good views of the passing Monorails. The sun was going down, which made for a pretty nice near-silhouette of one of the Monorail trains as it passed by.
It was a nice touch that the passing train happened to be Monorail Gold, which fit nicely with the golden color of the sky. Always fun when things work out like that.
As a side note, I am still waiting for Monorails to become common forms of transportation. I know a few places have them, but their use isn’t widespread. But Monorails have been in operation at Disneyland since 1959 and at Walt Disney World since 1971, so it isn’t like they are exactly new technology any more. Wouldn’t it be great if we had something like that in more major cities? I know I would ride one if we had one around here.
