Photo: Swamp and Boardwalk in Florida

This boardwalk and swampy area were seen on our visit to the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland on our visit to Florida this past summer. The boardwalk actually led out to the observation platform at Lake Hancock, and this was taken looking back at the shore of the lake from the platform. If you are wondering, there was an alligator in the tall grass to the left, although you can’t see him from this view.

I gave this photo a slightly vintage look with some lightness and desaturated colors, just to do something different from before. And in a way, it makes it look cooler than the heat and humidity that we encountered while we were there. Fortunately, those extremes don’t always show up in photos, unless your photo includes someone sweating profusely.

Swamp areas aren’t just in Florida, however. We have a swampy area not far from our house, which for some reason I was surprised to find when we first moved out there. We were driving through it the other day on the way to somewhere and commenting on the ways that it is similar to and different from the swamps that we have visited in Florida.

Jaylin said, “I wish this swamp had alligators like the swamps in Florida.”

“No you don’t!” said Laura. “Because as soon as they are there, it won’t take them long to wander up to our house!”

So there are some advantages to our Tennessee swamps over the Florida swamps. Depending on who you ask.
