Path Through the Trees at Circle B Bar Reserve

Trees covered with Spanish moss line the pathway through the wilderness areas of Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Florida.

As we walked through Circle B Bar Reserve, I kept stopping to try to get a perfect photo of the tree-covered pathways such as this one. This may not be the perfect photo, but I really liked how it turned out. At many places along the path, the trees form an almost complete canopy over you, blocking much of the sunlight, as you can see here. That is good, because it keeps much of the heat of the sun off of you. But the downside is that all of the thick growth also blocks what little breeze there might be blowing. So even though you aren’t as hot from the sun, you are still hot from the thick air all around you. But at least you aren’t getting a sunburn while you can’t breathe, so that’s a bonus.

While one of our main aims at Circle B Bar Reserve is to see some alligators, I do greatly enjoy seeing all the trees and plants that we don’t have back here at home. We have heavily wooded areas at home, but they aren’t like this. So it is always interesting to see how things are different in different parts of the world, even if we aren’t talking about somewhere on the other side of the world. Funny how much of a difference a few hundred miles can make on the ecology!

He stands and shakes the earth; He looks and startles the nations. The age-old mountains break apart; the ancient hills sink down. His pathways are ancient. - Habakkuk 3:6

About the Photo

This photo has a little less contrast than some of the ones that I process, and I purposefully did that to show more of the trees. The center off in the distance is blown from the sun hitting the trees there, but that’s how it looks in real life, too.

A single RAW exposure, processed in Photoshop. Read more about the photo software and gear I use at the camera gear page.
