Palm Trees and Beach Umbrellas

Palm trees stand among the beach umbrellas on Castaway Cay, the Disney Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas. As you can see, most of the umbrellas have been closed down. I was interested to see that around 3:00 or so, the Castaway Cay cast members came around and started closing the umbrellas that weren’t being used. If there were still belongings on the chairs under an umbrella, they would leave it open, however, as they did with ours.

I had never really thought about them closing the umbrellas, but that does make sense. That would keep them from blowing away if there happened to be a strong wind during the night or during one of the days that a ship isn’t docked at Castaway Cay. And apparently someone has to go out early in the morning to open all the umbrellas when the ship arrives. Just one of the many little details about a Disney Cruise that most people, including me, don’t every think about.

I went with a rather bold processing technique here for this photo. The main reason was to give some color to an otherwise overcast day. And I really do like the way this one turned out. Some might think it is just a bit too much, but I like it.
