Our 27th Anniversary

27 Years Ago…

Twenty-seven years ago, these two kids got married. We are celebrating another anniversary, although the celebration looks a little different this year.

These days, you don’t hear too much about 27th anniversaries, or any other year that is not a multiple of five. But we do like to celebrate each year, because each year is special. We are never promised another day, much less another year, so why not make the most of it?

Of course, this year’s celebration might look a little different than some of the past years. Laura and I were talking the other day about some of our past anniversaries. We have been on a couple of cruises, or on trips to Florida, or on a trip to Hawaiʻi, or other celebration-type trips and things. Some of those were on our actual anniversary, while others of them have been in celebration of an anniversary even if it was not on the actual day.

Those options are more limited right now. Instead of a trip to somewhere grand, or even somewhere above average, we are staying close to home this time. Not because 27 years is not important, but because we want to be able to enjoy the next anniversary, too. So we are choosing to stay safe and healthy at home.

While we might be looking forward to whatever future trips we get to take, we are also thankful for all of the extra time we have gotten to spend together over the past several months. There are some good side effects to not being able to go many places, and our extra time together has been just as good as any trip that we could take.

I have said it before, but if you are planning to get married one of these days, be sure to choose someone that you would not mind being quarantined with for several months. Because it just might happen! That has been a good thing for us.

About the Photo

This was not one of the “official” wedding photos. In fact, the official photographer was standing just to the right of this photo. I know because I cropped him out. One of our friends took several snapshots of our wedding day, including this one. And this has become a favorite wedding photo for both of us.

As you might guess, we were married long before the days of digital photography. So I scanned this photo in from a print and cleaned it up a little. It might not be quite as crisp and clear as the digital photos that we have now, but film photography was what we had at the time. One of these days, maybe I will scan all of those old wedding photos, just to do what I can to make sure we have them around for a while.
