No News Is Good News
Most every day, I like to listen to the news on the radio. Not necessarily news all the time, but I do like to hear the headlines to see what the big events might be. I started that on September 12, 2001, because on September 11, 2001, I arrived at the office and didn’t have a clue as to what had been going on. So now, I like to stay informed.
However, starting at this time of year every four years, I have to give up my news headline listening. Because I already know what it will be. And it is mostly all about the upcoming presidential election.
“Today, this candidate said blah, blah, blah.”
“In nowheresville, the other candidate said wah, wah, wah, while claiming that his opponent wants to blah, blah, blah.”
“While touring a factory, the candidate said that he doesn’t think his opponent believes that the sky is blue, and that he promises to change the system so that everyone knows that the sky is in fact blue.”
Every day it is something like that. Over and over again. And I don’t care.
That is not to say that I don’t care about the freedom we have to choose our leaders. I think that is very important. And I definitely plan to vote in the upcoming election, just as I do in every election, no matter how big or small it may seem.
But I already know which candidate I will be voting for. And there isn’t very much of anything that will change that. No matter who said what, or whatever they are talking about.
So I go around somewhat uninformed. Which is okay, actually. As long as something really big and important doesn’t happen in the world.
And if something does happen, I’m sure I will hear about it on Twitter first, anyway.
