Morning View at Home

Cloudy Day

Many of the photos posted here at Burnsland are from places we have been. You might even say that is true for most of the photos here. We have been to several fun places over the years, and that is nice. But sometimes, it is good to remember that being home is good, too.

So for that, here is a view from home, taken one morning last week. The sky was full of clouds, as you can see. But those clouds did not lead to any rain that day. In fact, we have had a long spell where we have not gotten very much rain. However, the grass and trees are still green instead of brown, so it is not all that bad yet. We usually have some dry spells this time of year, so this is not anything all that unusual. 

The power company did come along and cut all of the trees and brush underneath the power lines, so you can see more of the neighbor’s pasture way off in the distance. But otherwise, things are pretty much as they always are. Nothing wrong with that.

I sometimes think I do not post anywhere near enough “normal” photos, that is photos not from some faraway place that we have been. So this is one of those “ordinary” photos. I like it.

The Blessings of Home

As you may have already read in the previous post, Beach Views at the Grand Hyatt Resort in Kauaʻi, there are definite blessings to being at home. It is always nice to go out and see the world, especially if you get to go places that are very different than where you live.

But at the same time, it is a great blessing to be at home, too. That is why the saying, “There’s no place like home,” is always popular. Yes, it was taken from that movie with the yellow-brick road, but it applies to general life as well as to the movies. 

Even in the Bible story of the Prodigal Son, after the one son had gone and done his attempt at living the good life, he had come to his senses and realized that home was the best place for him. I don’t think that was just because he had run out of money. Rather, I think it was because he realized that for all his attempts at fun, there was not any place as good as what he had at home. Not just money, but family members who loved him and were watching for him to return.

Hopefully, it does not take running out of money for you to realize how many people at home love you. Hopefully, you let them know that you love them, too.

Because when it comes down to it, what really makes someplace a home is the love that is there.

About the Photo

I was starting out with some different stuff here, and I thought what better place to test it out than at home? Maybe another test on a sunny day will be in order, too. Or maybe a day with a beautiful sunset. But a cloudy morning was what I had to work with at the time, and that is just fine. Sometimes photography is more about using what you are presented with than anything else. And that is pretty cool.

The processing here might be just slightly over the top. But I often prefer the slightly “unreal” look over the more “normal” look. Personal preference, and your personal preference might differ from mine. That is okay, too.
