Fog and Mist

Recently, we had a foggy morning. And a bit of fog always makes for some interesting photo opportunities.

In this photo above, I was looking down our driveway from our house. As you can see, it was not the thickest fog ever, because you can still see the trees in the distance. But it was enough fog to create a different visual experience than usual, so I thought it was cool.

You might not be able to make him out, but our dog Copper is on the driveway, about three-quarters of the way down from where I was. Most any time we go outside, Copper thinks we are going for a walk down the driveway. Here, he got tired of waiting on me (because I wasn’t going, after all) and went for a walk on his own. But then later on he gave up and came back.

I also took this photo of the light post in our front yard. I actually only had to turn to the right just a bit from the first photo to take this second photo, in case you were wondering. It probably would have been an even better photo if I had turned the light on, but it was really too bright for it to be on, anyway.

Again, it was not the foggiest morning ever, but the fog did add to the atmosphere.

In a Fog

Isn’t it interesting how a little bit of fog can give everything a completely different look? I think that is why it is so interesting to photographers, as well as to non-photographers. It is fun for things to look different sometimes.

Yes, fog does have its problems, of course, especially in driving. It could make you miss your interstate exit because you can’t tell where you are. It could make you have a wreck because you can’t see the cars stopped ahead of you.

But if you are not having to go fast, you can just enjoy the fog where you are, and enjoy not seeing things that you know are actually there. Just because you can’t see them does not mean that they are not there.

To get a different perspective on things, sometimes you have to change where you are. But then at other times, you just have to wait for some fog to come in and change how things look. Pretty cool how that works!

And sometimes it feels like I am often in a fog, whether or not there is actually any fog outside. But that is another story for another time.

About the Photos

The nice thing about fog photos is that you really do not have to do much to them. I brightened them up just a little, adjusted the colors slightly, and removed some noise, but that was about it. Nice and easy, letting the fog do all the work.
