Morning at the Beach, and Weekends

An Uncrowded Beach

A look down Cocoa Beach in Florida early one summer morning. On our beach visits, we like to arrive at the beach as early as is possible. And as early as is reasonable. Because even though 5:30 AM might be possible (maybe), it certainly isn’t reasonable. For us, the proper combination of possible and reasonable is around 9:00 AM.

Getting there that early puts you there before all of the crowds arrive. As you can see here, there are a few people on the beach, including one person sitting by the water and a group farther down the way. That group was actually a surfing class, and they were about to hit the waves and begin their lessons. Besides that, there were just a few seagulls flying overhead.

I’m not the kind of person that feels like we have to leave once people start to get there. And despite what we overheard someone say, Cocoa Beach really doesn’t get all that crowded compared to some other beaches.

But still, getting there early before the crowds is pretty nice.

Fast Weekends

It seems like the weekends sure do go by quickly sometimes. A Saturday can feel so much faster than a workday, for some reason. Maybe it is because we don’t get up quite as early on Saturdays, which gives us a later start in the day. Or maybe that old saying about time flying when you are having fun is really true. For whatever reason, it seems like you blink a few times and the weekends are over.

Of course, our weekend wasn’t bad at all. We got to do some yard work, and we watched a little TV, which we don’t get to do as much when football practices are going on. And then Sunday was our usual church activities along with some extra church family time as we sent off missionaries to Thailand, and I managed to squeeze in a podcast recording for Beyond the Berm with Matt, too, which we hadn’t done in a while.

Maybe someone could invent something that would slow downtime on the weekends, and then speed it up during the workweek. Except that then I would probably be worried all weekend because of all the work that I didn’t have time to do during the workweek. Maybe that wouldn’t be such a good thing after all.

So it was definitely a good weekend. I just wish it had lasted a little longer.
