More Winter Views

To follow up the previous Winter Views post, here are some more winter views from around our house. Seems that we have gotten quite a bit of winter weather lately. And they say some more might be on the way, too.

For these photos, I did something I had not done for the other winter weather photos this year, and that was to actually go out with my camera and take some photos. All of the previous ones had been from standing on the porches or looking out the windows. But on this day, the sun was out, which made it feel a little warmer with no actual precipitation falling, and that made for a good day to go outside with my camera. At least for just a few minutes until my fingers were freezing.

I always like how the red barn stands out against the white ice and snow. The barn doesn’t look nearly this red any other time during the year. But add some white surroundings and the red really pops. Not that the horses care either way, as long as they get their hay to eat.

I thought about venturing into the woods, but this was as far as I got. Still, the woods did look really nice with all of that frozen stuff on the ground, even if most of it had melted off the trees themselves.

As you can see here, however, not quite all of the ice had melted off of the pine trees. I liked this view of the pine needles and pine cones covered in ice. The tree, however, was happy when the ice had all melted off, so that its branches weren’t so weighted down. I do feel sorry for evergreen trees once an ice storm has come through the area.

Here is another view across the horse pasture. While it looks nice and snowy here, most of that stuff on the ground in the foreground is just solid ice. Take it from me, because I slid across it whenever I tried to take a step. If I were into sledding, or just sliding on a cardboard box, it would have been great, though. Too bad Jaylin was recovering from a cold and didn’t need to be out in the cold.

A few hours later, I captured this view from the upstairs window as the sun was going down. Much of the frozen stuff had melted by then, although you can still see some ice and snow on the ground, and a bit on the tips of the trees, too.
