Moonset in the Morning

The other morning, the moon was setting in the front yard of our house just as the sun was rising in the back yard. It made for a pretty nice view, even if the moon did look pretty far away, as you can see in this view from our upstairs window.

It makes me think of the old song “Sunrise, Sunset” from Fiddler on the Roof (which I actually have never seen, by the way). And it makes me wonder why no one has ever written a song about the moonset. So maybe one could go something like this:

I can see the moonset
I haven’t left for work yet
If I don’t leave you can bet
I’ll be late for work and yet
My excuse will be all wet
Because I watched the moonset
With you.

You have to throw in that last “with you” part to make it a romantic song. Because who would want to hear a song about the moonset otherwise? That would just be silly.

Anyway, here is one more view of the moon from that morning, where I zoomed in as best I could with the lens I had on my camera at the time:

As you can see, it was a gibbous moon. Specifically, it was a waning gibbous moon as it was moving on toward the last quarter moon. Thanks, 8th grade science class! Maybe Coach Alsup would be happy that I actually remembered something from his class!

And if it makes him happy enough that he wants to sing, I have a song about the moonset that I would be happy to share.
