Monument at Shiloh
A monument to the troops from Iowa that fought in the Civil War battle of Shiloh at Shiloh National Military Park in Tennessee.
Among the interesting things to see at Shiloh are all of the different monuments to the troops that fought there. Some of the monuments, such as this one, are close to the visitor center. But others are found throughout the park. Even with all of our visits, we saw at least one on this last trip that we had not seen before, so there are quite a few of them around.
This Iowa monument is one of the largest as it reaches up to the sky. To give an idea of its size, if you look closely you can see the figure of a woman climbing the steps at the bottom right of the monument. Don’t look too closely, because she is partially clothed. But anyway, that woman figure is a good bit larger than life-size herself, which makes the entire monument quite large.
