Maui in the Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World
A close-up look at the statue of Maui that is found in the Great Ceremonial House, which serves as the main lobby for the Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World in Florida.
During the recent renovation, the lushly planted fountain that once stood in the lobby was replaced by this statue of Maui. And I for one was happy to see Maui return to the Polynesian Village Resort, because in the good old days (which would be the 1980s when I was a teenager), he was the symbol of the resort. But in the 1990s he started disappearing from the signs and such, and in losing that character the Polynesian lost a little of its character, at least to me. I’m no expert, of course, but I know what I like.
Maui looks a little different here than he appeared in his graphic-design format, but that’s okay. It’s obvious that he is still the same guy, and still going strong. And it is nice to see him in three dimensions instead of just two, too.

As you can see, that photo is more of an overview of the entire lobby. And it was taken in the daytime instead of at night. And if you click the second photo, it will take you to the post where I gave more of my thoughts about the Polynesian Village renovations, if you haven’t read it. Or if you have read it and forgot what I said. I won’t even get mad that you don’t remember everything I write here.

About the Photo
In the post with that earlier photo, I complained a little bit about the harshness of the daylight, but in looking at it again, I rather like the contrast and coloring that was there. It definitely gives the area a different look from the nighttime view seen in the main photo here. But still, I liked the close-up view of Maui, so that is why I am sharing this one today.
We were on our way back out to the parking lot and our car after visiting the Monorail Resorts, and although I had taken several photos of the lobby earlier in the day, I couldn’t resist one more of Maui, which is what you see here.
