Main Street Confectionery at Walt Disney World
The Main Street Confectionery in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World serves as a stop for something sweet as guests exit the park in the evening. Or as they arrive in the morning.
The Confectionery here on Main Street USA has things like candy apples, rice krispy treats, chocolate-dipped fruit, cupcakes, brownies, and other such sweet things. I’m not always that much of a sweets eater, so I don’t usually feel drawn to stop inside and sample the goods. Laura does like to stop inside for some cotton candy, and I suppose they still sell that there since we didn’t actually go inside on our last visit. Instead, I was content to take this photo as we walked by on our way out after the fireworks had ended.
By the way, this photo was taken soon after the Center Street photo that was shared here recently, although you might notice that the two photos have completely different looks to them. While the Center Street photo was glowing with warm golden tones, this one has a much cooler tone to it, at least in the terms of lighting color temperature. Blue/white light is “cool,” yellow light is “warm,” in case you didn’t know.
There are actually a couple of reasons for the different looks of the two photos, and both of those reasons have to do with this photo, actually. First off, to me, this photo almost looks like an old photo from the early days of the parks, because those old photos seemed to be colored more this way. So I like to think it has something of an antique look because antique doesn’t necessarily mean black and white.
But the other reason that this photo looks the way that it does was because the sky was looking pretty noisy when I lightened up the photo. Even with a good bit of noise reduction applied, you could see a lot of noise in the sky. Turning the brightness back down just a bit gave this look, which I liked, even if it is different from that other photo.
This is another of those photos that would have turned out differently if I had done a long exposure with a tripod. But have you ever tried to set up a tripod on Main Street USA after the fireworks? I don’t think that would last very long with all of the people making their way through there. There are those who stay well after the park’s official closing, staying until they are almost forced to leave, so that they can take photos without many people around, making it easier to get a tripod photo. I don’t do that very often, liking instead photos such as this one. And sleep. I do like sleep, too.

About the Photo
As I mentioned, this was a rather quick handheld photo as we were walking out. To compensate for the darkness, I set the ISO to 1000, and opened the aperture to f/1.8. Because of the brightness of the Main Street lights, the shutter speed was only 1/60 second, which is relatively fast for a nighttime photo.
