Lover's Leap at Rock City
One of the features found at Rock City in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is Lover’s Leap, a high cliff overlooking the valley below. Behind the cliff is High Falls, a waterfall that flows into a pool below. You probably don’t need me to tell you this, but that is Lover’s Leap up and to the left, with High Falls to the right of it. And we were looking at it from another location along the path.
As the story goes, a young Chickasaw man was in love with a young Cherokee woman. Once his tribe found out about it, they threw him off the cliff, and his lover jumped after him. Fortunately, I caught that I had originally typed “his liver jumped after him,” because his liver went with him. But his lover came after him and his liver.
For this photo, after my usual processing techniques, I applied a bit of Orton effect, which gives the photo a softer-focus, dreamlike look. I thought that worked well with the subject here, and I may add that to more of my photos as well. Because it is good to change things up from time to time, just to keep things fresh. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new processing techniques?
