Lounging at Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay
Just Relax
Chairs and couches provide a place to relax on the wooden deck of the Castaway Air Bar at Serenity Bay on the island of Castaway Cay, as seen during our June 2022 Disney Cruise.
During our day at Castaway Cay, I took a little time to walk around taking photos at each of the beaches we visited. Some of those photos were included in the trip report. But as you might guess, I took way too many photos to include all of them there. So here is one that did not make the cut, but that I still liked.
I have stopped by the Castaway Air Bar in the past for an ice-cold cup of water or Coca-Cola, but I never have sat in one of those chairs to enjoy it. I would always go back to our chairs under an umbrella at the beach instead. After all, I am really not a bar regular. I just go there for the water and Coke.
Looking back now, those chairs do look nice, don’t they? I would not mind sitting in one right about now and just enjoying the breeze off the water. And an ice-cold cup of Coke.
The Real Story
But here is the truth, the real reason that I was over there. The men’s restroom is on the back of the Castaway Air Bar building on the far side of the building, away from the main Serenity Bay beach. So I had just walked out of there when I saw this view as I was making my way back to the beach. I hope that doesn’t ruin the photo for you! No, I did not take any photos in the restroom. Yes, I washed my hands when I was finished. Thanks for being nosy.
Sometimes a photo can look pretty nice, but then the story behind it is a little less glamorous. Or sometimes the photo cannot accurately capture the mood, such as what funny thing someone said that made everyone laugh right when the photo was taken. Or even what might have been going on in the opposite direction from which the camera was looking.
But I still enjoy photos for what they are, little slices of time from a particular moment of a particular day. And when I look at this one, I remember the most excellent day we had there at Castaway Cay enjoying the beautiful weather and the beautiful scenery with some wonderful people.
The day is in the past now, moving farther back into the past at each moment, but the memories will continue.
For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. - Psalm 90:4
About the Photo
As you might guess, in the original version of this photo, the shadows at the right were somewhat dark. Fortunately, I was able to use the Raw file and Raw Therapee to bring out some of that shadow detail. The tone mapping that I applied to the photo might be a bit much, making everything look slightly unreal, but I thought it was a nice change from some of the other photos from that trip.
And just a reminder if you want to sound like you know what you are talking about. From the title, “Bay” and “Cay” do not rhyme. “Cay” is pronounced the same as “key”. Don’t ask me why.
