In the Woods

Walking in the woods at our house for the 11th entry in the 50with50 series. And no, we weren’t really lost. It is just that the woods make me think of that song from Frozen II. But more on that a little later.

When we walk through the woods at our house, it is actually rather easy to get turned around. If you make very many turns at all, everything starts to look the same, and you can have trouble knowing which way is which. One of us has a little better sense of direction than the other in our woods. And it is interesting because that is a reversal of roles from when we are out driving. I will keep you guessing as to which is which. Not that it really matters for anything.

This photo is from a bit of a clearing in the woods, as many areas are much more overgrown than this one is. In these open areas, it is easier to know where you are, because you can sometimes get a glimpse of things, such as our house, our fence, or the neighbors’ house. When the growth gets thicker, it is easier to get turned around because you can’t see anything recognizable.

Sometimes when things get thick around us, it is best to get to someplace clear so that we can see where we are and where we need to go next. Just like when we are lost in the woods.

Frozen II Songs

Confession: When we first saw Frozen II in the theater, I didn’t care for it all that much. Maybe it was just whatever frame of mind I was in when I saw it. I’m not really sure. It was okay, but it didn’t really do much for me.

But then when it was released on Blu-Ray, we watched it again. Maybe my mood was different. Or maybe I had just gotten more sleep. But for whatever reason, I liked it much better the second time. And the third time.

Plus, I liked the songs much better on the second viewing, too. I added the soundtrack on Spotify, and then I made a custom playlist of all of the soundtrack in “chronological movie order,” with the songs in the score in the right order. Call me old-fashioned, but I don’t like to hear all of the songs grouped together, followed by all of the score grouped together. To me, it makes much more sense to hear all of it in the order it was intended. But that’s just me.

Anyway, I often find that one of the songs is in my head. That song changes based on whatever I am doing at the moment. For example, when I was looking through my woods photos to find one to share here, I found “Lost in the Woods” running through my head. When things are getting crazy because of all the COVID-19 stuff, I find myself humming, “This Will All Make Sense When I Am Older.” And so on.

I am no professional movie critic or even a professional music critic, but this one has definitely grown on me over time. Funny how that works sometimes.

About the Photo

I went with a really low color saturation for this photo. I didn’t want it to be completely black and white, but I didn’t want it to be all happily colorful, too. I guess this type of look fits my current mood, so that is what I went with.

Also, I looked at several similar photos before I settled on this one. Not that there was anything wrong with the others. This one just rose to the top of the group. That is one of the nice things about taking lots of shots when you can. It is nice to have choices sometimes.
