Photo: Looking Through the Fort in Jamaica

In looking through some old photos, I came across the photos from our visit to Fort Charlotte in Lucea, Jamaica. We were there in 2008 and 2009 for mission trips, and this was from our 2008 visit.

Fort Charlotte sits high up above the rocky shore of the Caribbean, giving a great view of the blue water through the gun openings in the old brick walls. The fort was built by the British in 1761 to defend the northwest section of Jamaica. Considering its age, I would say that it has held up quite well.

Around here, Fort Charlotte would be a huge tourist attraction, but there it is open to any who stop by. If you weren’t with someone who knows where it is, you would probably have a difficult time finding it, actually.

I probably should have first posted a photo that shows more of an overview of the fort so that you would know what you are looking at, but that will wait until another time. While you wait, be sure to enjoy that beautiful blue water!
