Looking out over Junkanoo Beach in Nassau, Bahamas
During our visit to Junkanoo Beach when our 2017 Disney Cruise stopped in Nassau, Bahamas, I found the views from the concrete walls of the beach quite interesting.
After spending some time enjoying the water and getting a feel for how this beach might differ from others, I could not resist walking out along the concrete walls that jutted out into the water from the beach. I had seen others up there, and I figured that the view must be pretty good. Why not check it out?
To go out on this particular wall, I had to climb under the life guard chair that was at the beach end of the wall, but that was not all that difficult. Also, some of the elevation changes on the wall were much larger than a 12" step that we are all used to. But I went up and down them with no problem, too. When I reached the end of the wall, the view was definitely worth it.
Most of my beach photos are taken from the shore looking either out to sea or down along the beach. But this wall provided a much different vantage point from what I usually have access to. It was really cool to be able to look back at the beach from the water. It was also really cool to be able to see our ship way off to the left, along with the other ships in the port. And It was really cool to see all of the hotels and other buildings back behind the beach, too.
But perhaps one of the coolest things about this view was the ability to look down into the water from up high like this. Yes, the water really was that clear so that you could see right down to the sandy bottom. That was slightly problematic if you did not want to see just how many fish you were sharing the water with and how close they were to you. I did not mind that part as much as Laura did. But she survived. So the clear water was really cool to see. That made Junkanoo Beach different from many of the other beaches we have visited.
Of course, I was able to capture much more of the surroundings in this view with the fisheye lens than I would have gotten with a standard lens. Yes, that did include some of the wall in the photo, but I did not mind that. And yes, that makes the wall look slightly curved when it is in fact straight. But I do not mind those curves that the fisheye lens creates. Besides, that lens also captures much of the sky, and the clouds that day were impressive. Just another example of why I like wide photo views.
When you go someplace new, take a little time to explore and check out the views. Sometimes they are pretty nice.

About the photo:
As with most of the photos shared here at the Burnsland website, this photo of Junkanoo Beach benefits from some post processing. The processing brought out the colors and brightened things up a good bit, while also bringing out the detail of the clouds. Take a look at the before-and-after comparison below.
