Lonely Beach Chair at Castaway Cay
All By Itself
A beach chair sits all by itself at Serenity Bay on the Disney Cruise Line’s Bahamas Island of Castaway Cay, as seen during our 2018 Christmas Disney Cruise.
That poor chair is just sitting out there on the beach all alone. I would gladly volunteer to go keep it company right about now. Wouldn’t you? I suppose there would not be a shortage of people waiting to accept that offer.
It almost looks like the beach is deserted here, almost as though everyone left the island and went back to the ship except for your photographer here. Even the wave runner is just sitting out there without anyone around it.
However, the people were not all gone. They were just napping. As I mentioned above, this was at the adults-only Serenity Bay beach. And this was just after lunch time. So all the adults without their kids were enjoying some quiet time of sitting in the lounge chairs and not doing much of anything.
What Real Adults Do
Whenever we mention something about going to the adults-only beach, someone will eventually ask, “Adults only? What goes on there?” Get your minds out of the gutter, people. Because what real adults do when their kids are not around is take naps. I might not have believed that before Jaylin came around. But now I do.
In Jaylin’s younger days, we would purposefully keep him awake during our drive home after the Sunday morning church service. Otherwise, he would fall asleep on the way home and then be up all afternoon. If we kept him awake, we could eat lunch and then all enjoy some napping before going back for the evening service. In fact, we still do that whenever we can today. Jaylin may not take a Sunday afternoon nap any more, but he is old enough that he can watch out for himself while we get our nap in.
Hey, youngsters - here is a tip for you: Being an adult is tiring! You have to go to work. Pay the bills. Clean the house. Cook the food. Clean up after cooking the food. Cut the grass. Wash the car. Take care of the kids. And whatever else needs to be done. All of that takes a good bit of effort. So if your parents happen to fall asleep on the couch while watching TV, cut them a little bit of slack. They would love to have your energy. Or your lack of responsibility. Or just a little more time to sleep.
I know I would. Especially if it were on a nice beach somewhere. With proper sunscreen, of course.

About the Photo
As I mentioned above, there were other people around at Castaway Cay. Laura, Brant, and Karen were actually walking right behind me. And of course all of the other people were in their beach chairs in the shade.
Sometimes angle and field of view are important in photography. With a wide angle lens, you would have seen all of those people around me. But with a different focal length, you can fill the frame with just what you want. I like both approaches, of course, and I have taken lots and lots of wide angle photos. But in this particular case, the more narrow view won out.
