Lifeguard Hut at Cocoa Beach

One More Time

A yellow flag flies above the red, white, and blue lifeguard hut at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach, Florida, as seen during our 2019 Florida Summer Vacation.

If you have been around here at the Burnsland website for a while, you have probably seen photos of this lifeguard hut before. I like it, and I think it always makes a good photo subject. After a while, photos of sand and water start to look somewhat similar. So this colorful lifeguard hut is a distinctive feature of this park at Cocoa Beach, at least to me.

They always seem to be flying a yellow flag when we are there. But that is okay. I would rather have the reminder to be safe than to just go out and think that everything is fine and be caught off guard. They do have rip currents, after all. And the waves can be a little strong, too. Always good to use caution, even when you are on vacation.

Something New

This time around, I was looking for a test subject for photo processing, and I thought this photo would be a good test. Might as well go with something familiar, right?

It seems these days that brown-tinted photos are quite popular. You see them all over the place. I thought I would try to get a similar look. This may not be as brown as some of the photos that you see, but compared to many of my photos, it definitely does have a brown tint to it. It works for my taste.

This probably isn’t something I will use for every photo from now on, but it is nice to have some more options. Plus, it does give a different look to a familiar subject, which is cool, too.

Because doing things the same all the time gets a little old sometimes.

Bible Verse

The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. - Psalm 121:7-8

About the Photo

As you probably read above, I was trying something new this time. To achieve this look, I adjusted the color curves in Aurora HDR. I also adjusted the overall color temperature of the photo, making it much warmer than my normal settings. The color curve adjustments were to keep the colors from getting too out of hand after the warmer temperature setting.

I also decreased the color saturation a good bit, which is exactly the opposite from what I normally do. As I said, this is a bit different from my usual settings. And different is good sometimes.
